Sometimes, you may find that a few PCs are able to connect to a switch or router, but every other PC that tries to connect after that is unable to get an IP address. Such problems can be mystifying, because the device appears to be working, but not for everyone.
A common reason for such problems is the port security configuration. Port security can be configured to limit the number of hosts allowed to connect to a port. This prevents rogue devices from connecting. Unfortunately, not being aware that this setting had been applied earlier could produce this baffling result.
