Take a shortcut when filling in an item with color

Photos are always nice, but not always necessary. When your layout calls for something simpler, like clip art,
you can easily fill an image with color to create the sort of effect. There are a few ways you can accomplish this but they’re not equally efficient.

To fill a selection with color using a keyboard shortcut:
  1. Select the area you want to fill with color. (There are many ways to select pixels; the tool you use depends on the image.) You don’t need to select a vector shape, just select its shape layer.
  2. Click on the Set Foreground Color box in the Tools panel to open the Color Picker.
  3. Choose a fill color and click OK.
  4. Press [option][shift][delete]([Alt][Shift][Backspace] in Windows). The selected area (or shape) is instantly filled with the foreground color.
